The space between the speakers
Stereo is not nostalgia. It is geometry. When a left and right speaker are positioned with care, your ears receive timing and level differences that help the brain place voices, drums, and instruments in believable space.
A soundbar can widen an image electronically, but two cabinets placed apart create physical separation. That separation is the foundation of depth, scale, and the feeling that the performance is happening in front of you.
What to listen for
Start with a familiar vocal. If the system is balanced, the voice should sit between the speakers without seeming trapped inside either one. That centre image is the first sign that the room and system are working together.
